Obituary of Joan A. Arnold

Joan A. Valentine-Maynard-Arnold Age 83 of Horseheads. She was born July 13, 1937 in Wellsboro, PA, the daughter of the late Robert and Althea (McVannon) Valentine and passed away peacefully on Friday morning, March 5th 2021. Joan is survived by her loving husband of nearly 52 years, Gary; along with their children Valerie Arnold, Lisa (Scott) Levack, and Steven Arnold; grandchildren Nicholas & Zachary Levack, and Tabitha Arnold; sister Betty James; brother-in-law Terry Arnold; along with several nieces and nephews. Joan was a graduate of the Arnot Ogden School of Nursing; she retired from Arnot after 40 years as a Registered Surgical Nurse. She met Gary when they were both working in the hospital. She attended the Community Wesleyan Church in Horseheads for many years alongside her husband. Throughout her life, Joan was well known to her family for her artistry. She made Halloween costumes, fantastic birthday cakes, and her gift wrapping was second to none. She also enjoyed painting, sketching, and calligraphy. Family and friends are invited to visit the Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., in Horseheads on Friday, March 12th 2021 from 1 pm to 3 pm. Her funeral service will be held there at 3 pm; Pastor Bob Russell will officiate. Private committal and interment will take place at a later date in Union Cemetery of Hector in Burdett, NY.
