Obituary of Richard Holton

HOLTON, Richard L. Age 77 of Horseheads, NY. He was born July 16, 1944 in Troy, PA, son of the late Harold and Judith (Shepard) Holton and passed away Thursday, January 27, 2022 after an extended illness. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother Rodney. Richard is survived by his wife of 31 years, Bertha; daughters Stefanie Rae Holton of Horseheads and Linsey Anne Holton with fiancé Julia Strohl of Elmira Heights; grandchildren Payton John Aird and Annabelle Grace Holton; stepson William Robert Tunis of Horseheads; grandchildren Megan Marie Tunis with fiancé Andrew Bruns and his daughter Penelope Bruns all of Geneva, IL, Garrett William Tunis of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; sisters Helen Kay (Duane) Shedden of Gillett, PA, Shirley Smith of Bath, NY and Rose Hall of Troy, PA; brother John (Karen) Holton of Williamsport, PA along with several nieces and nephews. Dick retired from F.M. Howell. He was an avid outdoorsman. Dick enjoyed many sports including turkey hunting, deer hunting, fishing, skeet shooting, snow skiing, as well as golfing. He was also a big fan of NASCAR racing. Dick enjoyed the occasional trip to the casino, where he always seemed to come out a winner. Dick, with Bertha, would often spend an evening with family, or friends, playing euchre or canasta. When called upon, he would readily help friends and family, as he was very handy repairing, constructing and installing things. Dick's greatest joy, though, was his family. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. He had many discussions with Payton about the 'proper' way to mow the lawn, and he enjoyed imparting fixit skills, he never missed any of Garrett's baseball games, along with Megan's soccer games, and hanging out with Annabelle, whom will always be his little girl 'peanut'. Family and friends are invited to attend his memorial service on Saturday, February 5th 2022 at 1 pm, at the Barber Funeral Home, 413 S. Main St., Horseheads.
