Obituary of Catherine ""Kate"" M. Rice

RICE, Catherine M. “Kate” Age 96 of Rilla St. Elmira Heights passed away Mar. 30, 2011 at the Arnot Odgen Medical Center. She was born Mar. 8, 1915 in Syracuse, NY, a daughter to the late August “Gus” and Catherine (McDonald) Hardter. She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Fran) Meyers of Millport, NY; Son, John (Lenora) Rice of Defiance, OH; Grandchildren, Paul (Diane) Meyers, Marion (David) Decker, Helen Meyers, Sue (Darrell) McNeely, JonNieta Chaapel; great grandchildren, Kassie, Harlie, Makinzie, Sidnie, Jordan, Elizabeth,Theresa, Danni, Jennifer, Shawna, Vinnie and April; 8 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Catherine was also predeceased by her sister, Viola Unglick and brother, Herbert Hardter. Kate worked as a cashier for the P&C Food Stores in Langdon Plaza, Horseheads and Cedar St. in Elmira. She also worked in the dress department for S.F. Iszard’s. She loved bowling, handiwork including sewing, ironing, canning and homemaking. She especially loved being a grandmother. Family and friends are invite to call at the Barber Funeral Home 413 So. Main St. Horseheads on Monday Apr. 4, 2011 from 4-6:00 pm.
