Obituary of Marian Carol Oldroyd
Marian Carol (Swartout) Oldroyd
Age 98 of Horseheads, formerly Elmira Heights, NY. Marian passed away peacefully with family by her side on Tuesday, March 5th 2024. She was born in Elmira, NY on July 31st 1925 to the late Herbert and Florence (Sanders) Swartout. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Keith (Patsy) Oldroyd of Athens, AL, Clark (Janice) Oldroyd of Westminster, CO, and Lynn (Ann) Oldroyd of Myrtle Beach, SC; grandchildren Evan (Joni), Sean (Julie), Amanda (Jonathan), Jeremy (Joan), Nicholas (Samantha), Jennifer (Chad), Eric (Billie), Christopher, Todd, and Cole; 19 Great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; along with several other extended family members, and friends. In addition to her parents, Marian was also predeceased by her husband Raymond Glenn Oldroyd; son Glenn Oldroyd and his wife, Bonnie Myers Oldroyd; and her brother Leon Swartout and his wife, Lois.
Marian attended the University of Mary Washington (formerly Mary Washington College) in Fredericksburg, VA and Keuka College in Keuka Park, NY. She was a lifelong member of the Oakwood United Methodist Church, former employee of the Elmira Heights School District, active and founding member of the Elmira Heights Historical Society, and former member of the Elmira Heights Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a founding member of the Elmira Heights (Thomas Edison) High School Alumni Association. Along with her husband of 66 years, she was an active supporter of the Elmira Heights Boy Scout Troop 13, the TAE Booster Club, and the Clemens Center, where she volunteered as an usher.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Oakwood United Methodist Church, 210 Oakwood Ave, Elmira Heights, NY 14903, on Saturday, March 9th 2024 from 1 pm to 2 pm. Marian will be laid to rest in a private ceremony in Woodlawn Cemetery, Elmira.
