I am very saddened to learn that Ms Toney has passed on. I lived in her building in 151st Street in the early 2000s. She was so kind and warm, and her impact on me was such that even after I moved out, I would call her every year to see how she was doing. When I lived in her building, I wanted to get a cat and she told me that her daughter’s cat had kittens and that she would save me one. I told her go ahead and get 2 so could they be companions. A few months later, when the kittens were old enough, she brought me 2 girl kittens. One was black as midnight and the other was white as snow. I named them Boots and Puss, respectively. They live to be 16 and 13. I will remember Ms Toney for the rest of my days and will always be grateful to have known her.
